Hi there!

I am translating a retail manual where the word "scontrino" is very frequent.
I would translate it with "receipt" but in the same context I also have "ricevuta"(also receipt), so I'm afraid the two meanings will be mistaken...

I wanted to know if "scontrino" is commonly called "ticket". Can I use it in this case (in a manual)?

Thank you in advance.

    Grazie, ma vevo già letto tutti i thread indicati però non mi hanno aiutato, non rispondono alla mia domanda.
    Volevo sapere se posso usare "ticket" per "scontrino" in un manuale commerciale.

    Potresti almeno scrivere una frase intera almeno capiamo cosa vuoi dire?

    Riporto qui il contesto.
    - Far inserire al Cliente il codice personale (PIN);
    - Attendere l’emissione della ricevuta ed accertarsi dell’esito positivo della transazione;
    - Confermare la registrazione di vendita ed emettere lo scontrino;
    - Consegnare al Cliente lo scontrino e la
    ricevuta del pagamento.

    Quale termine devo usare per "scontrino" e quale per "ricevuta(di pagamento)"?

    Grazie

    E' una distinzione difficile. Forse un altro ti può aiutare, ma comunque "ticket" non va bene (va bene per bus, treno, cinema, partita ecc.).

    Hello!
    Volendo essere "fiscali" Scontrino vs ricevuta (5)eek: sorry!) il till receipt è lo scontrino fiscale, quello che ti danno quando compri qualcosa, per intenderci.

    Il bancomat ti tira fuori un receipt.

    Se compri qualcosa e oltre al till receipt ti danno anche (o tu richiedi) una rivevuta di pagamento, direi receipt for payment/credit card receipt.

    Direi 'slip' per scontrino e 'receipt' per ricevuta.

    Hello, Furs!

    Yes, sales slip is AE for the equivalent BE expression till receipt (scontrino fiscale).

    G'day, Charles!

    Is it the same in OzE, or would you use the American "sales slip"?

    Jo, we generally call them (shopping) dockets here if it's from a supermarket, otherwise sales dockets. Sales slip and till receipt are recognized but not used as much.

    The reason I suggested slip instead of receipt (even if I know it's mostly an AE term), is that OP needs to underscore the difference between 'scontrino' and 'ricevuta'.
    Besides also the 'ricevuta della carta di credito' is often called a credit card slip, isn't it? And I could swear I heard this term in the UK as well.

    Yes, Furs, I've heard credit card slip in the UK as well!

    The difference in BE between scontrino fiscale and ricevuta is:

    Till receipt: scontrino fiscale
    receipt: ricevuta

    but, being lazy, we call them all receipts! That, I think, is the problem.....
